Can I Use Tamiflu For Heachache, Chills And Fever?

Hi - I think my husband has the flu but all of the urgent med places have too long of a wait right now. He has a fever, has had a headache for 3 days, has chills, and is sweating. Can I get anything over the counter to help? Is Tamiflu a prescription?

Hi,

Yes, Tamiflu is a prescription drug and is used for swine flu which needs reporting to the health authorities.

It is not advisable to take it without an H1N1 test. Please go for H1N1 test where a nasal swab would be taken. If it tests positive, Temiflu is advised.

Usually, viral flu is self-limiting and responds to antihistaminics like levocetirizine and steam inhalation, rest and plentiful fluids.

A bacterial infection needs an antibiotic course, preferably amoxicillin and moxifloxacin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
