Can I Use Castor Oil For My 4 Year Old Baby Who Is Constipated ?

Hi Doc, this is esther. I want to know if castor oil safe for my 4 year lod daughter that is constipated, lactulose does not work for her.

Hello esther;

Constipation is when a child does not pass stools normally or does not have sensation for 3 days and in such case you can give medicines like lactulose.But since it is not working you can give her Milk of Magnesia.Although castor oil is safe but in case of babies there can be a chance of aspiration so better avoid it.If she does not respond well to lactulose please get her to a Paediatrician but do not directly give castor oil.
