Can I Use Chantix To Quit Smoking After Having Heart Valve Replaced?

I had a heart valve replaced three years ago in Seattle Wa. where I elected to be on a study for warfin/asprin. I moved to Costa Mesa Ca. 1 year ago. I would like to have a doctor in my corner to advise meds etc. I also want to quit smoking which I have been doing for 55years. I have thought about Chantix (spelling) would it be advised? I see my doctor in Seattle once a year for this ongoing study.

Welcome to HCM!

I have read your question and can say form my clinical experince that you should try quitting cigarette with non medical measures first.
moreover, champix is avoided if patient has any cardiac history.

Had I been treating such a patient, I would have asked him to try out these first::
1. keeping fenugreek seeds, cardamom in mouth
2. or by using cloves, as it helps in providing tingling sensation and sometimes helps in reducing craving.
3. if you can not stop it altogether, then it is advisable to smoke only half of each cigarette, and leave the rest. In this way the consumption is reduced to half.
4. also, one should not deep breath while smoking and take superficial puffs, this way the amont of toxic gases and harmful effects of cigarette is significantly decreased.

So, avoid going for champix, try the above methods for some time...you might get lucky with them!

Hope the reply is useful
