Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Weds am I had a Ct scan with contrast, both iv and oral. Now I have I diarrhea that will not stop! Or arrives without warning, like I stand up and talk all over the floor. I have consumed fluids, taken probiotics (Align) and a few crackers. I feel better, I just can t control the bowels! To take lomotil or not? Yogurt? I am getting hungry. What do you recommend?
Hello and welcome to HCM. Contrast used in CT scan may cause diarrhoea as side effect. If it happens,It generally resolves within 24 hours. You can have oral rehydration salt solution after each diarrheal episode. No need of taking any drugs unless the diarrhea is confirmed to be of any specific origin. If the watery diarrhea continues beyond 48 hours ,you may require further management by intravenous fluids. Also may I know what are the other health complaints you have? Why were you advised CT scan? The answers of these questions may point towards other causes of diarrhoea you are suffering from. Thanks and regards.
