Can Macbroid Taken For UTI Cause Positive Result On Pregnancy Test?
I am 2.5 weeks late on my period. I have taken 5 home pregnancy test and have been taken medicine for a uti. One that I was allergic to (bactrum) and then was prescribed macrboid. All of my home test were negative with out question. So I asked my doctor and they took a urine test and it came out positive. I don t feel lie in pregnant and I ve had two kids already. But something feel wrong. I have a lot of abdominal pains( not like ones in early pregnancy, but more like a soft continuos contraction) and sharp pains that shoot from my spine to my toes. Could the medicines I was taking for the uti cause my 5 test to be negative or is there something wrong with me? And not in the terms of being pregnant.
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist, Macrobid( Nitrofurantoin), is not known to cause a false positive pregnancy test. Neither the antibiotics taken for UTI, cause a negative pregnancy test. They're not known to do so. You can confirm the report, by doing the test at a standard lab, or even check your blood for pregnancy. As far as your abdominal pains are concerned, kindly get an ultrasound abdomen done, after an examination by a doctor, and blood routine, sugar, creatinine, bilirubin, and send a copy to me, for an expert opinion, as a direct question. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
