Can Mirena Be Taken Out Before Its Time Period?

I have the Mirena in. I will be at my 5 year mark in June. I am getting married in June and have a honeymoon booked. Can I wait till July to get my Mirena taken out? I do not want to chance it but really don t want to deal with it before the wedding. Dose the Mirena have any grace time ( if that is what you would call it) after the 5 year mark??

Hello,

Yes, you can get your Mirena coil removed before its time period by your health care provider or GP / gynecologist. If you continue to keep the Mirena coil inserted even after its expiry date, it will not work. You will be at high risk of getting pregnant.

You are suggested to get it removed and get a new coil inserted or you can also discuss it with your Gynae about the other contraceptive devices and pills that can serve your purpose and be suitable for you. Stay away from addictions, smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc., for the best efficacy of contraceptive pills or devices.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
