Can Moxifloxacin HCL Be Taken For Persistent Sinus Infection?
After persistent sinus infection for the last year, and after several antibiotic prescription, my doctor ordered a cat scan that revealed polyps in the sinus cavity, so now my doctor prescribed Moxifloxacin hcl 400 mg, at the same time I took an appointment with a ENT doctor who I have not seen yet cause I could not get an appointment until NOV 16 2016, after reading all the side effects on the moxifloxacin I am very reluctant to take this medication, now the question is: should I wait till Nov 16 and sk the ENT doctor before I take it?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Moxifloxacin is another newer quinolone antibiotic. But since you have tried several antibiotics and still having persistent sinus infection, there must be some anatomical abnormality, which is making it difficult to get rid of the infection effectively. Hence, it would be advisable for you to get clinically evaluated by ENT Surgeon and take necessary investigations like X-ray of paranasal air sinuses and CT scan, so that the anatomical abnormality can be corrected by means of surgical procedures. This could help you to overcome the problem permanently. Kindly consult ENT Specialist in this regard for appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
