Can Norethisterone Be Taken To Regulate Menstrual Periods?

I have been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. My periods are very irregular. I sometimes don't have them for months but when they start, I have heavy bleeding which does not stop for weeks. I want to know if I can use norethisterone tabets to make my periods regular. What will be the dosage and will it have any severe side effects? Otherwise what would be the best treatment for me>
