It is unclear why you feel you have to stop phenytoin, is she having a side effect of some sort? Do you want to stop just phenytoin or do you not want any treatment at all?
Phenytoin is given to prevent seizures, but you don't mention whether she has had any seizures during the course of her problems or they've given it to her because she had a high risk of having them. If no, then you can try stopping Phenytoin but very gradually, lowering the dose progressively over the course of several weeks.
If she has had seizures, given the fact that she has brain lesions she is a high risk subject and it would be dangerous stopping anti-epileptic treatment, but there are other drugs with fewer side effects if that is the reason you don't want it.
