Can Senokot Laxative Be Given For An Elderly?

My Mother is 83 years old with Alzheimer s, we have had to switch her diet to puree foods because she cannot eat solid foods well as she has no rear teeth, for the past 3 days she has not gone to the bathroom(not pasted waste) she does urinate. What should we do ? Should we give her Senokot Laxative and see if that helps ?

HI. Alzheimer and the medicines used to cure it are a cause of your mother constipation too, with of course the above mentionned change in diet, so it's al an understandable situation. But I'm not for Senokot as "the chosen "laxative in her case, because it's just an overnight laxative and not for a situation that tends to be chronic. So I'd recommend Lactulose better.
