Can Sulfamethoxazole-tmp (taken For UTI) Cause Skin Irritation Under The Eyes Of A Child?
Hello we recently went to the doctor for our 2 year old girl with a possible UTI. The doctor prescribed Sulfamethoxazole-tmp. We have noticed that she is having skin irritations (itching) and redness under her eyes. Is this a serious side effect that we need to take her to an ER or, jus stop giving her the medication, and go back to the doctor for a different prescription?
It is possible that she is allergic to the antibiotic. Allergic reactions commonly cause an itchy skin rash.
It would be best to speak to her doctor who would likely recommend discontinuing the medication as soon as possible. He or she would give you a prescription for an alternative antibiotic.
An oral antihistamine would help with the allergic reaction.
I hope this helps
