Can A Blood Test Be Done While On Dialysis?

Hi I am a nurse in a dialysis unit and we have a patient who needs a PSA done prior to urology appointment. We need to take the sample today. Is it ok to take the blood test during/after dialysis. Would the result be affected by heparin Kind Regards Michele

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

PSA level doesn’t get affected dialysis or heparin. You can draw the blood and send for the test. Try to use a different line instead of dialysis line.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
