Can A Bowel Movement After Vaginal Hysterectomy Damages And Ruin The Sutures?
Hi, I just had a vaginal hysterectomy on Friday, jan 31. I'm a little bothered by the fact that I'm bleeding bright pink like a light period. But it showed signs of slowing down this morning . I haven't had a BM yet, and my stomach is really starting to hurt from this. I tried to go for about 5 minutes and gave up. No relief and noticed now I'm bleeding a little heavier. Can having a BM damage the sutures? How do I do this and not ruin the surgery??
Having very vigorous bowel movements may damage the sutures but this is very very rare. The bleeding may come from the vault sutures and is common but will need an examination for confirmation. Most of the time it subsides by itself. Excessive straining may potentially disrupt the vault and cause bleeding.
You will need a stool softner to help in moving the bowel. Syrup lactulose is very effective when used with plenty of water. However since you are also having issues related to bleeding, it is advisable to see your doctor before taking any medicine. An enema would be a better option and can be had in the ER.
