Can A Car Accident Cause Mild Degeneration Of Disc? Also Suffering From Sciatica Pain

On 9/11/2012 I was involved in a car accident which left me with sciatica of which I still have pain. The doctor said my mri showed mild degeneration of the discs. Is this something that can be caused by this accident because I was perfectly fine before.
