Can A Child Be Put Under General Anesthesia If Suffering From Cough?
My daughter who is 5 is supposed going under anesthesia this coming tuesday. Her primary phy whom we saw last Monday said the cough is going around. She is on Antibiotics because of the upcoming surgery. The cough is getting better but it is still lingering. Is it advisable to go under anesthesia with a persistent cough. It didn't wake her last night
It is usually not advisable to schedule elective surgery for child suffering from cough or any upper respiratory infection. However for emergency or lifesaving surgery, such complaints can be overlooked. Before surgery your anesthetic will do preoperative examination and blood tests to ascertain fitness for anesthesia and will decide accordingly.
