Can A Late Period Cause A Sore And Swollen Ankle?

My 13 year has been complaining about her ankles feeling sore. i took a look and they seem swollen. She has had her period for about 4 months now, so i assumed water retention, but should they hurt? She is 5 6 and weights 132 lbs. Should i take her in for lab work?

Hello,
Though it is common for irregular cycles to happen soon after menarche, yet, regular observation is needed. Since your daughter has some swelling of the feet, she needs to be investigated further. Hormonal swelling causes mild edema and this is usually not sore. In the current scenario, you should get er checked by a general physician, get renal function evaluated, complete blood picture taken, anemia and protein deficiency ruled out and hormonal assay done. Further management can be planned accordingly. Take care.
