Can A Man With HSV Spread It Without Having An Outbreak?

Just to be clear. Even if there is no outbreak, you will absolutely spread the virus to your partner? AS well, why is all the information regarding HSV2 always centered around women? Men have it too, yes? Can a man with HSV spread it without having an outbreak? is research close to creating an anitbiotic that will wipe out?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

There is a possibility of transmission of HSV without an outbreak and it is termed silent spread. Even if they don't show any sign of infection, people carrying the genital herpes virus can infect a sex partner 10% of the time.

The finding comes from a large study that collected daily genital swabs from nearly 500 people infected with herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), the genital herpes virus. Many (18%) thought they were uninfected, but found out they were herpes carriers when they underwent blood tests.
