Can A Vitamin D2 Supplement Be Substituted With Vitamin D3?

Hi! My blood test showed my vitamin D level at 18.5 so my doctor prescribed a once a week D supplement. It is D2 and I would prefer to take over the counter D3, maybe 1000 units a day or a bit more. Should I do this? (I am 74, very active, good health, take 7.5 levothyroxine and Evista daily). Thanks!

Good Day!
Vitamin D3 is the preferred form of supplementation and 1,000 IU is the same dosage I am currently on. So yes, feel free to switch as vitamin D2 does little for increasing tissue levels of this important nutrient. I hope this satifies your question and if not, please get back with me.
