Can Alcohol Be Consumed While Taking Teva Cephalexin Monohydrate?

My husband has been taking Teva-Cephalexin Monohydrate 500(500 mg) for a possible skin infection for the past 5 days and has 5 days left. To celbrate New Years Eve, he wants to drink 6-8 cans of beer (355 ml), each are 7% alcohol. The medication has no warnings about alcohol. Can you give me some advise?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
It would be advisable to avoid alcohol intake, whenever any drug has been taken for treatment.
Your description states that he is taking antibiotics for skin infection. Taking so much quantity of beer is definitely not advisable and he needs to avoid it completely. Altough not contraindicated, alcohol may delay the wound healing or decrease the potency of antibiotic action.
Once his condition improve and antibiotics course is over, he can take alcohol in limited quantities, which would be ideal for maintaining his good health.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
