Can Antibiotics Cause The Birth Control To Stop Working?

Me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex 2 days ago and I am on birth control I have been for about 10 days and I ve never missed and I take it at the same time every day. But now I m sick, I have a sinus infection and my doctor perscribed me antibiotics but I heard that antibiotics can cause the bitch control to stop working or be less effective. Can I get pregnant if I take the antibiotics. How long should I wait before having sex to know that I m fully covered if I do Thais the antibiotics and there is no chance of me getting pregnant.

hi,
There are many antibiotic which has drug interaction and decreases bioavailability ( by inducing enzyme or suppression of intestinal flora) of oral contracepitive (OC) pill which when taken With oc pills then dose of oc pills should be increased . Antibiotics causing less efficacy are
1. Amoxicillin
2. Ampicillin
3. Erythromycin
4. Fluconazole
5. Griseofulvin
6. Itraconazole
7. Ketoconazole
8. Metronidazole
9. Ritonavir
10. rifampicin
11. Tetracycline

So in my opinion visit your general practitioner for regulation of drugs in proper dosage form or use barrier contraceptive also.

Hope this will help

Thanks n regards
