Can Arthritis Cause Sharp And Debilitating Pain In Toe?
Dr. G: I have terrible pain in my toe (one in from small toe). It is very sharp and debilitating. It's been going on for about a year and I was told I have arthritis throughout my body...not RA. The pain in the toe makes the nail sensitive and in the last few days has spread to the front of my foot just before the toes. I don't know what type of dr. to go to.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. Joint pains can be due to autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, inflammatory diseases like SLE, bursitis, fibromyalgia, etc. To pinpoint the diagnosis, complete physical examination and investigations like complete blood counts, ESR, RA factor, CRP, serum uric acid, serum creatinine, X-ray and MRI joints from a rheumatologist are needed. You need to consult a rheumatologist for proper treatment.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
