Can Being Vegetarian Cause Hyperthyroidism?

Hi, I'm just 24 and about 112 lbs. About 5 days ago, I got half of my Thyroid removed due to a 2.6cm nodule. I also had another one of 1.3cm on the other side removed as well but keeping half of my Thyroid. I thought it was pretty normal to feel neck tightness but my heart is racing! and it's causing pressure on my chest. I didn't performed any strenuous activity. I haven't been told about any medication yet, do you think this will go away or do you think i need to bring it my doctor's attention? Also, the left side of my neck where my thyroid was taken out, it feels like a bruise if i touch it but there's no signs of bruising.

Let me know what you think about this since I don't know many people with their thyroid removed to try to ask. My parents still blame it on my vegetarian habits. Is that even true? My results before the surgery seemed as if i had hyperthyroidism.

Thank you,

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. Do you mean to say that thyroid function tests were not done before surgery ?
Anyways, You need to take this to your Doctor's notice immediately. No, there should not be any tightness in the neck, nor should there be heart racing / pressure on chest; please consult your Doctor immediately. Diet per se has not much of a role in this disease , continue your diet habits. Feeling of bruising is OK. We will be very happy to help you more if you can post the reports.
