Hi,

Carbolic acid (phenol) is highly inflammable and corrosive chemical commonly used as an antiseptic or disinfectant. It produces corrosive effect on skin and mucous membranes. If consumed accidentally it can damage the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus and stomach. It has no therapeutic purpose apart from being an antiseptic or disinfectant.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
