Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told I had cancer cells on my cervix. Not serious yet. Also I was told it is caused by STD a transferring sexual contact from someone. I know in my heart that neither I nor my husband of 42 years have had sex with anyone else even before we got married. What gives?
Cancer is the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells and can affect any organ. Having abnormal cancer like cells in the cervix is possibly early stage of cancer in you and please take treatment urgently. People having early cancer can get completely cured with the right treatment.
HPV is the human papilloma virus which causes genital warts and is a sexually transmitted infection. Two HPV types (16 and 18) cause 70% of cervical cancers and precancerous conditions. It is not necessary to have these viruses to get a cancer. Cervical cancer can occur without infection with this condition. It is also probable to get HPV infection by non sexual routes like close contact and kissing. Therefore please do not think much about any sexual transmitted disease and proceed with treatment. Please do not worry.
