Can Change In Epileptic Medication Cause Any Side Effects?
Hi there,
My dad is 58yrs old, he's an epilepsy patient for last 30+years..
Right from inital stage till date he has been using sodium valproate 400mg twice a day.
Recently, few weeks back he's effected with epilepsy(fits) nearly after two years gap / not sure what resulted this.
Being a common practice we have consulted the doctor and has make him to undergo all the test(ECG/EPG/Scanning) etc tests.
As a result the doctor whom we consulted has adviced to stop using sodium valproate 400mg and replace it with Oxetol 300mg, and assured this should take care of the issue.
Now all im worried here is, as dad being 58yrs old, changing the mediciens now will have any kind of impact? will he be safe?
Will he have any side effects? What precautions should be taken?
Please advice im pretty worried about his health..
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Not to worry. Medication has been changed to avoid recurrence of epilepsy. 2. Despite previous medication, epilepsy occurred. So, it was changed. 3. Side effects you need to watch for are importantly any drowsy feeling or Disorientation. Watching out for recurring episode is important. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again
