Can Child Of Three Years Be Given Protein Drink?

My granddaughter is 3 years old. Her mother gives her Special K protein drinks 1 to 2 times a day. She doesn't like to cook. I'm worried that my granddaughter is not getting the nutrition she needs. As I said she is 3 yrs old and weighs 20 lbs. My son gets her 3 weekends of the month and when she is with us she will eat very well with us, of course I'm a southern girl and I cook chicken, corn on the cob and baked beans which my grandaughter loves and will eat good for us. Her mother also doesn't believe in getting the immunizations shots and my granddaughter has had only 3 or 4 shots since birth. My son is in court proceedings on trying to get full custody. But my concern is that she is to young for this protein drink. Your suggestions will be appreciated.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

I appreciate your concern on your grand daughter nutrition, health, and immunization.

Children requires balanced diet like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, and micro nutrients in the form of rice, pulses, vegetables, leafy vegetables, oils.

These provide complete nutrition to her and help in healthy growth.

Only protein drinks are not sufficient and they will lead to extra load on kidneys and liver if they are given in higher quantities.

And solid food is recommended rather than protein drinks.

Consult the pediatrician and dietician for her diet plans.

Coming to immunization, it improves the child resistance to certain diseases and protect the child.

Healthy environment, good nutrition, and healthy practices such as immunization ate child rights and explain these things to her mother.

Not offering good nutrition and proper immunization comes under child negligence under omission.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
