Can Clarithomycin Cause Itching In The Vagina And Anus?

Hi, I had throat infection some days ago and I was give clarithomycin. I noticed that my whole body especially my vagina and anus started to itch from the day I started the usage. I have used canesten pessary and I have been using the cream no result. I even use salt and warm water. Now the upper part of my vagina is broken and still itchy. Could it be that I am reacting to the antibiotics.

Thank you for posting your question to HCM.

From what you are describing it looks like a thrush infection. Its caused by using the antibiotic, and it is treated with an antifungal cream, like you are doing.
So yes, clarithromycin and all the other antibiotics cause this infection. If you have finished the course of the antibiotic, the canesten cream and pessary should clean the infection in 3-5 days. Make sure to use a thick layer of the cream, and cover every area of the vagina/vulva.

If after this time it still is itchy, then you may need a tablet to treat it. I usually recommend my patients to use Fluconazole 150mg, 1 single tablet. That will be enough remove the problem.
