Can Coming Off Althea Pills Cause Acne On Face And Neck?

hello, i already used the althea birth control pills before for only 7 months and i stopped it because my husband and I is already in long distance so there is no purpose to continue taking it. but i noticed when i was taking the althea pills my skin was very nice and i was glowing. now, after 5 months since i stopped taking the pill i am starting to suffer what they called cystic acne. it started on my chicks, even in my neck they also pop up. i hate it, it made me depressed. i am thinking to take althea pills again for the purpose of curing my acne. now my question is, is it possible the althea pills can help me cure my acne?

Hello,

Althea tablet contains cyproterone acetate, a progesterone having progestogenic and anti-androgenic effects and estradiol. The cause of acne is the hormonal imbalance with excess of androgen. So the cyproterone has been helping you correct the imbalance through its anti androgen effect. Now that you are off Althea, the androgen is active again and is producing the acne.
Althea may not cure your acne, but will keep it suppressed. It may come back when you stop Althea.
