Can Cyst In Thyroid Affect Vocal Cords?

I have three cysts on my thyroid diagnosed 6 mths ago. Biopsied and are benign. One on the right side is large. Six months and no change in size. Doctor says the risk in surgery can affect my vocal chords. I sing, so this is profound. I feel the cyst at times, but no real problems. She says we should see in 6 mths any change in size or symptoms. Bloodwork shows my thyroid fuctioning is not affected. Two questions: 1) can my vocal chords be affected with the cyst there? and 2) is my left ear having a frequent feeling of congestion related in any way to this?

Hi,in the lats six months there is no change in size for the cyst in your thyroid gland but it is importsnt to know that cystic nodules may expand and enlarge suddenly sometimes due to hemorrhage or bleeding within a smaller pre-existing nodule. In some cases, rapidly enlarging cysts may produce symptoms in the neck, including pain, trouble swallowing, and rarely, compression of vocal cords leading to a change in voice quality.
For the second question my anwer is that there is not relation between the thyroid cysts and the congestion in your left ear.
