Can Diarrhea And Stomach Pain Be A Sign Of Abscess Formation After Appendix Surgery?
My Grandson had ruptured appendix and emergency surgery 2 and half weeks ago , he s been home 1 week . He has not bounced back , he has severe Diarrhea and tummy pain ..we were told after surgery and when we left hospital , he was at super high risk for another abscess forming for up to 5 weeks out . Should I be concerned , he just don t have energy , lays all time , can t attend school ?

Hi,
Noted the history about your grandson, operated for ruptured appendix two and half weeks ago, back home for 1 week, not bounced back, severe diarrhea and tummy pain, another abscess forming. This is an emergency and needs immediate admission back to the hospital for intravenous fluid and antibiotics:
- CT scan of the abdomen
- Tests of blood, stool and urine
May need urgent surgery to clean up the abscess depending upon the clinical evaluation, examination and reports of investigations. Till then keep your grandson nil orally. Get him the proper treatment and he will be alright.
