General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thick, yellow, or discolored toenails are frequently caused by infection from a fungus. This same type of fungus also causes athletes foot. I suggest using an anti fungal cream for local application such as Clotrimazole cream. I also suggest using an anti-fungal such as Fluconazole 150 mg for three days. I recommend to use cotton socks.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
