Hi,

Epidural anesthesia can cause weakness in the legs and back pain, especially if the epidural needle or catheter is not properly placed or if the medication enters the spinal cord. However, these complications are relatively rare and are more likely to occur in individuals with preexisting spinal conditions or nerve damage.

In your case, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider to determine the cause of your left leg weakness and back pain. They may recommend imaging tests, such as an MRI, to evaluate the spine and nerve function. They may also refer you to a specialist, such as a neurologist or a pain management specialist, for further evaluation and treatment. It is important to seek medical attention promptly if you are experiencing any neurological symptoms or if your symptoms are worsening.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
