Can Fear Of Needles, Injections And Drawing Blood Be Overcome?

Hi, I m only 13 years old, but I have a very bad fear of needles, shots, and most of all, getting blood drawn. I faint whenever someone tells me stories of their experiences, or get very nauseous. How can I get over my fear? And if I can t, how can I get shots and not faint? Thank you.

Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. Let me tell you that it is not unusual for people to fear pain. Nobody likes pain or anything that can cause pain. Nobody. So nobody including you is supposed to like needles or shots either. Some people might be having phobia to cockroaches, the thought of which may make them faint or feel sick. Phobia is excessive or disproportionate fear of something. What you are describing seems to be a phobia to the needles and pain. But I would not describe it that way. People who allow themselves to be pricked by a needle have simply developed the courage to allow the painful thing to happen to them just because they have learned that for something good to happen or for something bad to be avoided, the painful stimulus needs to be accepted. I am sure that on your own effort you too would be able to get over it. It is just a matter of self assurance that it is worth it. I am sure that you would be able to do it and not faint. Just develop the courage. Wish you all the best.
