Can Fracture In Bone Be Detected On X-ray?

Hi,my son hurt his arm/elbow at school 4wks ago.went to a n e for xray,doc couldnt see any bone fracture but said his fat pad was slightly large and told to keep in sling till follow up week later.went back and saw another doc who said there was no fracture,my son was still in pain.another follow up was booked,same thing said again.yesterday I got a call from dr secretary to say the doc would like to she us as the x ray report has come back and theres a slight fracture!,how could they find it when 3 diff doc couldnt?

Some fractures are small and hard to see on xray. That is why it is always best to have a radiologist look as all xrays for a final reading because they have more training in reading xrays than other doctors. It is also true that sometimes a small fracture will not show up at first, that is why it is good to get follow up xrays if the pain persists.
