Can Hydrocodone/acetaminophens 5-500 Cause Allergic Reaction With A Sick Feeling?

My daughter is 14 and she had foot surgery a growth taken off her bone that covers her arch. Her surgeon gave her hydrocodone/acetaminophens 5-500 and she gets sick with it. She eats before she takes it too. Could she be allergic to the Meds or too strong. thanks Theresa Bradley

Hi,
This is unlikely to be an allergic reaction. Your daughter is probably sensitive to the hydrocodone in the combination. This is a opiate similar to codeine and sensitivity in the form of sickness is quite common.
I suggest you consider giving her acetaminophen separately and ibuprofen which is particularly good for bony surgery.

Dr K A Pottinger,
