Can Hyperthyroidism Affect Pregnancy?
Hi doc,
I visited a doctor for general check up and got the reports as hyperthyroidism...i had 2 abortions in my history...i am married...and 27 years old..Is it something serious to worry about? When can i be pregnant again? will that affect my baby?

I would inform you that it is very important to try to concieve with normal thyroid hormonal level.
An abnormality in hormonal level may be a cause of infertility, abortion or anomalies of the fetus.
If the cause of hyperthyroidism is Graves' disease there is a risk for the fetus to have hyperthyroidism because the antibodies causing it cross the plancenta and may attack the thyroid of the baby.
For this reason i recommend you to normalize the thyroid hormonal level before starting a pregnancy and to stay in close monitoring during pregnancy!
