Hi. I had protected sex but unprotected oral with a sex worker a month ago. 2 weeks before, I started feeling dizziness and body pain. I checked with doctor and got my blood work done. The results are hypothyroid. Although doc has suggested repeating test because I do not have excessive weight gains which is symptom of hypothyroidism, rather I have dome weight loss due to extra work last few months. I am worried about HIV or any STD transmitted thru oral sex. And could hypothyroid be a symptom of hiv? Please advise. Also, shud I go for HIV or STD tests, if yes then which one and when? Thanks for help!
Thank you for query. The possibility of getting STDs like HIV cannot be ruled out until further tests as suggested by your doctor. They can be transmitted through oral sex also.Hypothyroidism is a entirely different entity not related to HIV it is due to abnormal thyroid gland function which is situated in the neck.So they are unrelated. You can wait for 6 more weeks for another HIV test and repeat the test or if available can go for P24 antigen test.Dr Bharatesh D Basti
