Can I Do Cervical Rib Surgery When I Have Chronic Asthma?
I have a well formed cervical rib on the right side. Surgery has been suggested. However, three years ago I suffered collapsed lungs, pneumathorax and pneumonia following an oesophagal tear during surgery. I am worried that this would be an additional risk. I have chronic asthma. I am unsure what to do.
Hi, ya you have respiratory problem along with esophageal tear, so you have surgical risk. Surgery not done unless it is very much indicated. If cervical rib not lead to much symptoms then no need of surgery. Still if surgery has to done then anesthesiologist has to alert during surgery and 2 unit blood has to be ready.
