Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have deppression since last year . I started psychological therapy but it has to be stopped. Then my primary Dr. prescribed Paroxetine hcl 20 mg (1 a day) until I go to my next appointment on 8/24 when she will give a referral to either a psychiatrist or a psychologist according to my progress with the medication. I'm 73 years old and I also take Primidone 100 mg/day for Essential Tremor by my neurologist. I still feel depressed. My question is: do these two drugs interfere with one another? I don't feel any improvement in any of my two conditions.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Paroxetine is an anti anxiety and anti depressant drug. The drug is a safe drug and if used in prescribed doses is free of serious side effects. Primidone is a drug used in a number of conditions and the drug has effects on microsomal enzymes so interacts with a number of drugs. The drug is contraindicated if individual is using tricyclic antidepressants. As such the drug doesn't cause any significant effects on levels of Paroxetine and can be taken together also. The drug should be avoided with other SSRI especially Fluoxetine but over all it has no significant interactions with Paroxetine.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
