Can I Take Promethazine For Nausea?

My doctor diagnosed me with shingles on Friday,7/31/2015. He gave me Diclofenac in pillform,75mg,2x,daily. Yesterday I felt good. But woke up very nauseated and felt quite sickly.I take Lisinipril -10/12.5mg,Carvedilol-6.5mg, Citalopram-20mg &the diclofenac . I just wish I could vomit because of the nausea. Dr. Rachjaibun gave me the diclofenac to control the pain, which I am thankful for. However the nausea is to the point I can hardly cope with it.So I took 25 mg of Promethazine about an hour ago. Is that ok? My doctor is on vacation and I can t afford a $6000 trip to the ER. And by the way I have had the shingles Vaccine several years agoo because I m a 1st. Grade teacher and my students were falling like flies. I got the shingles anyway.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Medication like Diclofenac often worsen stomach issues like ulcer or gastritis because they inhibit production of a substance which protects stomach lining, so it is not uncommon for it to have such side effects.

Promethazine is used for nausea and won't do any harm, only some somnolence as a side effect perhaps. However more appropriate are medications which inhibit acid secretion in the stomach like Omeprazole.

If symptoms persist even then though I suggest you stop Diclofenac.

I hope to have been of help.
