Hello Dr.Grief, Thank you so much for helping us. My 71 year old husband fell several weeks ago and broke the tip end of his elbow. We went back to the orho. and due to the nerve pain proscribed tramadol hcl 50 mg. One every 6 hours. Tony is also taking loritab for pain. Can Tony take tramadol every 4 hours? Hello ,welcome to healthcare magic.

Tramadol has been prescribed 50 mg every 6 hours that means a total dose of 200mg.And you are taking LORITAB which contains an opioid which can cause a drug interaction with tramadol. Moreover your husband is in the geriatric age group which make him more vulnerable to drug interactions.

I would suggest not to increase the dose of tramadol and i think we should address the cause of the pain ie his tip of elbow by an ortho surgeon.
