Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, i have been having vaginal odour for years, all the tests show negative results, thought it is BV and treated severally but nothing has worked.I have tried change of diet but still nothing.I read somewhere that mupirocin can help treat that. Is it true?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Mupirocin is an antibiotic belonging to the monoxycarbolic acid class. It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria. It is used as a topical treatment for bacterial skin infections, like furuncle, impetigo and open wounds. You can use the medication if you have any of the bacterial infection, which would be causing vaginal odour. Otherwise, if all other things are normal and you do not have any other symptoms, just washing the area with warm water using mild antiseptic solution twice a day should suffice. Sometimes, odour can be caused due to changes in the vaginal mucosal pH. This can be balanced by washing with solutions such as 'V wash'. Kindly maintain good hygiene. Wear loose fitting undergarments made of cotton, especially at bedtime. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
