Can Long Term Use Of Carbimazole Affect The Liver?

I have been taking Carbimazole 20mg from Nov.13 until April 14, now taking 5mg carbimagole. Told that if this does nt correct Hyperthyroid condition it s suggested I have the iodine treatment.I am very concerned about this as I would prefer not to have it as it is so permanent, however as Carbimazole long-term can affect the liver. Just don t know what to do, and I am worried. Thank you Regards.Elizabeth

You are taking carbimazole 5 mg from last April .
I want to tell you that there are very mild side effects . These are fever, pruritus , urticaria, edema , arhtralgias.
However more serious side effects are lecopenia , liver damage 9 but in rare cases ) , so need not to worry at all.
As you mentioned that IODINE treatment is next choice , if untreated , so it is ( iodine ) the quickest acting drug in the hyperthyroidism and its action become apparent within 24 hours.
So if you didn't get response with carbimazole , start iodine under the guidance of an endocrinologist.
