Can Medrol (oral Steroid) Prescribed For Back Pain Interfere With Body's Ability To Fight Cold?

I went to the doctor Monday for severe back pain. He prescribed medrol? (oral steroid) I was going to start taking it Tuesday, but woke up with a cold. The information packet said it can interfere with the bodies ability to fight off infections. I still have the cold, but my back also still hurts. Should I just start taking the medrol tomorrow, or should I wait until my cold is gone? Thank you!

Hi, steroids do interfere with immune system on long term use.. But in your case it is unlikely as you have just started them. You need not stop them from that aspect. The question is whether you require steroid for back ache? I personally donot recommend steroids for back pain unless there is significant compression of spinal cord. You may take a second consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. Hope this helps.
