Can Menopause Cause Severe Melasma On Both Cheeks?
Hello I am from Australia - I was born in Mauritius and I am 49 year old female very fit and do not go out in the sun without hat SPF 50 etc. I have severe Melasma on both my cheek area and do not go anywhere without heavy makeup. I have tried everything known available. 6 per cent hydroquinone over a 2 year period on off 3 months, every type of skin lightener available, microdermabrasions, IPl Approx 6 now, and I cannot remember how any different variations of peels. Is this a pigmentation due to menopause - I am so depressed about it - are you able to please please off any assistance.
I understan your concern. Melasma is common in pre-menopausal women. It is thought to be enhanced by surges in certain hormones. Treatments are often ineffective as it comes back with continued exposure to the sun. Assessment by a dermatologist will help guide treatment. There are more ways how to treat melasma and I suggest you to try another treatments offered by your GP or dermatolgist.
I hope this answer was helpful.
