Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 4 months ago. Have been off steroids for 2 of those months and am on one maintenance drug called Lialda. 2 days ago, I decided to take my temperature and found it to be 95.9 before I went to bed. The next morning it was up to 96.7 and went all the way up to 98.3 before dropping to 97.9 last night. I woke witha temp this morning of 97.9. My temp has normally been around 98.3 -98.6. What could be wrong with me?
Lialda (Mesalamine) can cause mild fever as a side effect. The normal temperature in humans is said to be 98.6ºF; Subnormal - below 98°F ; Hypothermia- below 95°F (less than 35°C).
The normal body temperature shows a diurnal variation. It is on an average about 36.1º C/ 96.98º F oral in the morning.
It rises through out the day and the peak is reached in the evening between 6 to 10 pm. The reading can be as high as 37.2C/99ºF oral in the evening.
Then it starts falling until it reaches the lowest reading at about 3 to 4 AM. However, your body temperature seems within normal range.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
