Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Mild Scoliosis Cause Pain And Swelling Below The Ribs?
I have been diagnosed with mild scoliosis around the age of 10, lately I been having swelling on my left side below my ribs and it s minor pain. When I went to the doctor they told me that my ribs were going in my muscle. Is this because my scoliosis is getting worse? What should I do to prevent this?
Yes, scoliosis can cause pain in the ribs. Depending upon the curvature of the spine laterally there is change in the muscular system leading to tightness on one side and lengthening of muscles on the other side.
Doing regular exercise for the correction of scoliosis and postural correction is of utmost importance to avoid the scoliosis curvature to increase.
Exercise will include the breathing exercises, scoliosis correction, posture correction, core stability, and general aerobics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
