Can My Dad Go For Open Heart Surgery In Age Of 83?

My Dad is 83 years old and was told today he will need to have open heart surgery to replace a valve. He had quadruple bypass surgery about 12 years ago. He is in good health and exercises every day. What are his chances of making it through this surgery.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. If he is fit for general anesthesia, he can GI through it.
2. However, look if the surgery is going to be very important, means, will he not survive for more than three years without it..
3. 83 is old. Yes. Lung capacity is important. Chances are less.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
