Can Niftran Be Taken By 8 Year Old Child?

my son is 8 years old & he was suffereing from urine infection last ten days, now he do not have any complain about pain while urinating, yesterday again uring culture test has been carried out but still doctor say the infection still exists & advised him to take NIFTRAN Suspension for ten days, 7.5ml daily twice. Can 8 year old kid consume this drug, please advise

Niftran contains nitrofurantoin which is used in the treatment of bacterial infections. It is used in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections of the urinary tract. This medicine works by interfering with the bacterial wall synthesis. In this way, it stops the growth and spread of the bacteria. Your child should take this medication in dose and duration according to the pediatrician's advice. Despite feeling better, your child should continue this medication and complete the full course of medicine.

Otherwise, there is a chance to become resistant. Don't stop taking this medication without informing the pediatrician first. It is safe and effective medication for children if it is taken as directed by the pediatrician. Sometimes, some side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea etc., may occur in some patients while taking this medication. These side effects are mild and self limiting. Such type of side effects usually disappear when your child's body will be adjusted to this medication.
