I am a male, and my girlfriend has just informed me that she has HPV. She hasn't shown any signs, but was told by her doctor after an exam. We have had sex, but always with a condom. However that condom has come off at least a few times. Also I have had oral sex with her. What are my risks? Can I avoid infection, even with condom use?
Hi , thank you for using health care magic. I can understand about your concern regarding HPV infection. HPV is one of the common sexually transmitted virus. If condom had slipped and there has been direct contact then it is possible that you may have acquired infection. similarly oral sex with partner also produce direct contact between two mucus membrane and increases the risk for the same. However HPV infection usally remain sub-clinical that means not producing any sign like warts. Body's immune system clears most of the infection in 2 year time. With proper use of condom for vaginal sex , infection can be avoided but oral sex is not advisable. Prevention is the best method of cure in sexually transmitted infection. I hope you find this helpful. Regards.
